Friday. January 4

Something horrible happened. Cooper was hit by a car last night. ( Friday night at 9:45 p.m.) He nudged the front door opened and darted into the street just as a car was speeding by. Words can't address how awful it was. The thud. The yelp. The way your brain explodes with the knowledge of what's just happened. John scooped him up and we raced to our emergency vet. Not knowing if he was going to die in his arms.

The vet said that Cooper was very lucky. Nothing was broken and at this point he's escaped without major injuries. He has a bad cut on his thigh and they had to dig gravel out of his chin. We have to watch him carefully over the next 3 days to make sure he doesn't have internal injuries from all the bruising. They gave him moraphine and a sedative to exam him fully. We all spent a very sleepless night watching him breath. The car didn't even stop.

Life today gave me many great pictures today. Unfortunately the camera faced a technical challenge- batteries. Once a week I visit my 88 year old Granny in Smithville. Today was Granny visit day. Then I stopped by my sister's house. While Deb and I chatted my nieces raided the bathroom closet. Did you know that tampon applicators hooked together make a great telescope or an "abra cadabra stick." ? Or did you know that bunches of tampons on the floor look remarkably like tiny white mice with long tails? Would have made good pictures huh?

This is the picture that I did take today. Introducing our cat Brady. Brady is 3 years old. His mom lived in my Gerty's (my grandma) senior housing. She had kitties on my Gerty's patio before we could get her spayed. We named Brady- of course after Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. (and at the time he joined our other cat Emmitt- after another football player Emmitt Smith but Emmitt died two years ago)

Resolutions

One of our resolutions is to read every book on the Mark Twain Award List. We started our eighth book yesterday. Jackson is a part of the Mark Twain book club at school.

My other resolutions.

  1. to learn to make jelly
  2. to take a picture every day for a year
  3. to wake up healthier than I did this morning

Introducing our dogs. Colby, on the left, is a 7 year old border collie mix. She was destined for medical research before her owner decided to give her and her litter to me. The rest of the litter found good homes- and then we decided that Colby had already found hers! Three years ago she contracted Rockey Mountain Spotted Feaver and the high fevers it produced led to Auto Immune Hemolytic Anemia. Months of high doses of steriods lead to her weight gain. But she's been symptom free now for several years. (although she can't have shots and we treat her immune system with kit gloves) Cooper is a one year old Golden Retriever mix. Notice the cute little Hitler mustache. He and Jackson have graduated from 4 obedience classes (puppy kindergarten, basic obedience, agility and advanced agility) He's still an onery goof ball who has eaten 8 remotes and last week a yellow highlighter!

The Way We Are

As a part of my Project 365 (one picture every day for a year) I'm also going to take a picture in front of this tree on the first of every month.

New Year's Eve

We celebrated with our neighbors. The kids enjoyed sparkling grape juice. Jackson with his friends Sammie and Cameron.
